I'd like to see this more directly integrated to iTunes. Perhaps a plugin, sidebar, or at least the ability to update the changed tracks in iTunes.

Seems like a gaping hole in the immense featureset to me.

Automatically updating iTunes database so changes made in Jaikoz are reflected automatically within iTunes is definently high priority issue, but is made more complicated by the closed nature of Itunes, and different solutions would be needed for Windows and OSX (iTunes is not available for Linux).

A plugin/sidebar is even harder , can you give me a better idea of how you would like it to work

I recently bought a QNAP TS-209 which can run as an iTunes Server, and I also bought Jaikoz to enhance my ID3 tags.

I'm looking for a way to use iTunes on my Mac for playing and managing my library, storing it on my NAS, and using Jaikoz to update the ID3 tags. All these things should work together seamless, and therefore the ability to update the iTunes library directly from Jaikoz would be extremely valuable for me !!

When would it be possible to beta-test such a feature ?

Thanks,
Martin

Im working on it right now, the next release Out before the end of January will include this feature, there isnt yet a beta program in place so probably have to wait for the official release.[b]

I don't know if this works the same as the QNAP, but I have a DAAP server on my Linux file server. It would be awesome if I could manage that database directly from Jaikoz on my desktop.

The next release will allow changes made in Jaikoz to be reflected in the itunes database. But the only way to update the itunes database is via the iTunes api (applescript for OSX, COM for Windows) so it will not be possible to update the database unless you have iTunes running on the computer that you are running jaikoz from. So unfortunately you wont be able to update an iTunes database that is visible from a linux box from linux because iTunes is not availble for linux.

Is DAAP relevemt to this, is DAAP for sharin music to others ?

DAAP is the protocol iTunes uses to share stuff.
There is an open source server to emulate an iTunes server on Linux and such. I think it's called Firefly now, used to be called mt-DAAPd. QNAP probably uses an implementation of it as well.
It's definitely a low priority feature. But it sure would be cool to automatically update...

Hi, thanks for the extra info DAAP is not something I knew about. But I cant figure what you are actually asking for, isnt DAAP just a way of playing songs on one computer in another computer using itunes as the interface, you wouldnt use it for updating song info would you?

Well, I've been using a very old version where they used a iTunes library file to build the database for the server. So I would have needed that file to be updated when tags are changed.
It looks like they have advanced quite a bit past that now and they build the database themselves. I will have to figure out how rescans are triggered, etc, but it looks like Jaikoz won't need to do anything to make it work.
