Good analysis, but if you still have the files somewhere I'd aprreciate it if you could send me one so I could fix the issue.

yeah I thought of that...after I deleted them and emptied the trash...

The problem was that after several attempts some of the flacs had lost all their information and were named null.mp3.tmp, null(1).mp3.tmp, etc...

since these were bootlegs of a concert from glastonbury, there wasn't much information about them except what was in the filename and when it was renamed to null I didn't know what they were and so they weren't that good to me anymore. I wasn't thinking about what value they'd have to you to see what oddities jaikoz had uncovered.

I might be able to run a data recovery tool but as there have been lots of file activity due to me moving files around to break up my tagging tasks into more manageable batches, I fear they are really gone.
Weird. discovered some flac files were giving it fits. ended up deleting them.

So far, I have been going through with the divide and conquer technique "okay lets run through all the bands that start with T through Z....[wait]...okay now N through S..." Now up to the Bs and still no issue.

Looks like it was with some Artist beginning with A. Ha! Of course it would be the last ones I try....

It's been awhile since I began cleaning my collection.

I have roughly 1000 tracks in a misc downloads folder. After running them through various Jaikoz steps (and saving along the way), I decide to commit and as one of the final steps, "Correct Filename From Tags". It appears to hang, but knowing that with large numbers of files, it might just need time, I leave it overnight.

It never gets past stage 1 of analyzing the columns.

So I hit cancel and it never seems to recover. So I quit the application and it tells me I have unsaved changes and do I wish to save. Yes I do.

I see some files have indeed been changed which is interesting as it never seems to get past stage 1 yet was able to perform enough operations to change some files.

So I try with a smaller subset. This time it is about 160 files.

Same thing happens. I think some file may be giving Jaikoz fits but I would really not like to play the "divide and conquer" game to try and figure it out.

Any verbose logging that might be able to help me here?

Mac Pro - 6GB RAM
Working on my default autocorrect options and I am curious just what data does jaikoz use to do the clustering so I may put this option in the best spot in the list of autocorrection tasks.

Any benefit to having this both before looking up data on music brainz and afterwards?

I really like the original poster's idea.

Move Album Artist Column to the right of Artist Column
Sort Album Artist Column so blanks are at the top
Select Artist and Album fields upto the last Songs where Abum Artist is blank
Select Edit/Prepend to Right so that for each song it copies the value in the left field (artist) to the right field (album artist)

Hrm... cool. I think I never gave the Prepend command enough thought. Thank you much.
As the title says.

Just wondering is I am missing something. I see the Swap options...but I need a copy.
I discovered that genpuid.exe but was still getting the error.

I must have configured something wrong with Proxycap or the proxy has an issue.

Thanks!
Easy!

In preferences on the manipulators tab, there is an autocorrect subtab.

there you can select and deselect the desired tasks performed by the autocorrector.

On the right side, select correct lyrics and hit the remove button.

This major release now adds :

-> Improved look for OSX Leopard version

-> Artwork autoformat for Musicbrainz and Discogs now supports a Only populate if new artwork is higher res option, ensuring artwork is only overwritten if a higher resolution image can be found. (You need to manually change your preference if you are upgrading from an earlier version of Jaikoz)

sweet...
"Outbound connection to MusicIP Server on Port 10001 appears to be closed, this will cause Retrieve Acoustic IDs to run very slowly, please check your firewall."

I am at work and many of our connections are blocked. However a coworker has a proxy that I can use for those applications that allow me to set preferences for a proxy.

However, I also found a program called ProxyCap which allows me to redirect the connections from a program to a proxy.

(works great to play World of Warcraft at work).

However, I don't think the jaikoz.exe is the process making the connection to MusicIP Server as I still get the message "Outbound connection to MusicIP Server on Port 10001 appears to be closed, this will cause Retrieve Acoustic IDs to run very slowly, please check your firewall."

Since it is a Java program, is it some sort of java process making the connection? If so, since we use Java for some of our internal tools, I don't think I can/should redirect java to the ProxyCap.

Hello all, I have a couple of questions surrounding my understanding of the encoding options.

Currently, I always write idv1 and idv2.3. Generally, most of my music is plain old typical US English and the tags and lyrics don't need anything special (iso-8859-1 is fine).

But there are some rare exceptions (have a few Russian tracks and a couple that I have no idea where they are from since I can't read the language). From reading the online help, with the default set to iso-8859-1, it will automatically write UTF-16 for v2.3 if it is needed, correct?

What about lyrics?
When I am at work, I cannot seem to use Jaikoz well, because I cannot get to certain websites such as musicbrainz, discogs, etc.

However, I can get around many of our corporate restrictions in various programs that can be configured to use a proxy another coworker has set up.

Any way to do this for jaikoz? It would be nice to use some of my down time to clean up a subset of the collection on an external drive.

Edit : Just searched the forum - I see this has asked before. Add my request to the pile!
I purchased Jaikoz awhile back and I realize that Paul has now made lots of improvements in many areas and I am now eager to get back to work cleanign up my collection.

I am eager to hear how other people are using the new features to clean up (what's your workflows?)

but I do have some specific questions :

Since the Musicbrainz IDs are already embedded for many of the files, I think I will not have to go through that again but it I want to retag everything using the new preferences for grouping albumns yadda yadda, will it go ahead and retag overriding the previous info it got from musicbrainz?

Also let's say I have all my music in a current folder structure. What's the best way now to have jaikoz correct everything and then create a wholly new folder structure based on the information in the tags? I've always been confused by this step.

I have a Mac Pro with 6gb RAM : I have seen conflicting info reading this forum about 64 bit flags (Paul says they shouldn't matter but people anecdotally say another) and the best way to increase the amount of memory used, plus forcing jaikoz to use the updated java. Any best practices you Mac users have?
