One more suggestion for synchronization between these two panes: When a user "Pack" a column (all or just selected) then adjust the same column widths in the other pane. That'd make it even easier to compare data between panes.
As of today on download.com, the user-review summary they provide does not at all reflect the user reviews submitted. You should try to get them straighten this out. They're such a central resource for shareware, but seem to have problems with their rating system.

And, of course, thanks for Jaikoz!

So I cant decide whether to remove this functionality or just fix the synchronization of the sorting, what do you think ?

As for the length column not being sorted consistently, Im not sure what you mean by this, can you give an example of expected versus actual behaviour please.

I'd lean towards removing the automatic re-sort in the Edit field, when editing a sorted value. I personally could do without rows jumping around while I'm making changes.

As far as the consistency, I just saw rows getting out of synch between the View & Edit panes, but not always in the same way. I've tried to reproduce this. One thing I noticed is that if I have "Length" sorted, then close all files, then open a new folder ... again only the "Edit" pane is sorted still by Length. Again the View pane is out of synch.

I also took a series of screen shots that I'll email rather than paste in here.
I'm using Jaikoz 1.9 with Java 1.5.11.

I loaded an Artist folder that contains 3 Album sub-dirs. I turned on all View options (Tag Browser plus View Page) and all options to synchronize views are active.

I've selected non-default columns to view, including "Length", and I've sorted by Length so that non-missing Lengths are at the top of the Edit view. When I select a non-missing Length cell and click CTL+D to delete the Length tag, Jaikoz automatically re-sorts the Length col.

But this re-sort is not working properly -- it does not consistently sort the non-missing back to the top, plus it does not stay synchronized with the View Pane.

There is a difference, with green fields the Frame does not exist, with a white field the frame does exist but has an empty value.

I think part of my confusion comes from the fact that when I delete (CTL+D) a field, eg "Length", and then Save Changes, Jaikoz updates the files, but then leaves the Length field white (meaning *blank*, rather than *missing*).

This still happens with 1.9.
I don't see a way in Jaikoz 1.8 to revert to saved tags (eg, undo changes in a working session). It would be nice to have this ability for one or many files.

To be clear, I don't mean Undo changes after applies to disk .... only during the working session, before saving changes to disk.

Thanks!

Is the current mechanism where you can select multiple fields in column, right click and delete that slow ? however it is an interesting idea, would you like to suggest a user interface

I can see this as a straightforward extension of the current Find/Replace functionality. Adding an option to find a frame or element by name (eg, NCON or TLEN, above) with an option to replace with blank value or alternatively simply to delete the found frame.

The more complex extension would be to have the find/replace functionality know the attributes of the more complex frames (such as Artwork or User Defined frames) and allow users to find one of the pre-specified values & replace it with another. For example, finding an "Other" artwork & replacing it with "Cover"). Or, finding an Unknown with a specific Name, etc.

Thanks for this explanation, Paul.

I guess my follow-up question is whether Jaikoz with write "white" frames to tags with missing values, or simply leave these blanks out of the tag. I guess my preference is to leave the blank values out of the tag. I have found the "delete" function, which does actually delete the frame, rather than just clearing the value. So that works for me.

I'd be curious what others think. Perhaps there's a consideration that I'm overlooking, like compatibility with tag readers embedded in players, etc., which makes blank values better than missing frames.
I may be missing a tag subtlety, but I don't quite see the distinction that Jaikoz sometimes makes between a missing tag frame (colored green by default) and a blank frame (white by default).

Quite often, Jaikoz 1.8 displays a mix of white and green frames, but if I examine the actual tag contents, eg using something like Helium Music Manager or dbPowerAmp, I see no difference between the "white" and "green" files ... the frame doesn't appear in either tag.
Jaikoz's new Find/Replace enhancements are great, so much so that I hope for further enhancements, especially for automating modifications & deletions.

For example, more flexible matching/finding (some wildcards or other expressions?).

I'd like to be able to automate the deletion of frames (including "Unknow" and "Not Supported") I don't want, such as the NCON & TLEN tags that I believe an old version of Music Match added to my library. I can already use Jaikoz to do this *manually*, but that's too slow.

So, I guess I'm really looking for a way to Delete specific tags throughout my library. Jaikoz is already great for providing unprecedented access to "Unknown" and "Not Supported" frames. I'd like some more non-manual tools for eliminating specific frames.

Also, changing attributes of frames, again automatically. I think MusicMatch also tagged a lot of my cover art as "Other", so that some apps don't see it as the cover pic. I'd be great if Jaikoz could find these "Other" pics & replace just the attribute with "Cover", but of course keep the pic.
Jaikoz v1.8.0 Build 1024 functionality (latest as of posting) is really exceptional, but unfortunately the settings seem fairly buggy to me.

For example, the Table settings don't allow me to uncheck fields that the table currently displays. I've read the help, which instructs to Select, then Double-click the Visible field. Sometimes this works, mostly it doesn't.

First time in, Read Folder of Folder Settings doesn't allow "Cancel" when folder path is empty.

Save Setting, I get a Jaikoz error "javax.swing.JPanel" when switching between "Always" and "When exists" and/or id3 versions.

Basically, every setting dialog I've opened, has failed in succession in some way.

It's tough to take advantage of the otherwise great features when simply configuring the app according to the Offline Help cools enthusiasm.

I'd like to see Settings tidied up and Tabbed, so I can quickly review & configure all settings without constantly returning to the app and opening a new dialog. Plus a button to access Help from such a Tabbed dialog would be great for access the extensive details documented in the offline help.

I note you've added a review to download.com, maybe you would consider toning it down a little - it seems rather harsh.

Agreed. I've requested deletion; that's the only option as editing isn't possible (?!?). I'll add a new review once the latest version of Jaikoz is on dowload.com.
