Good Afternoon,

I am looking to find out if anyone has developed a best practice, checklist, how to, or something else that would assist in this scenario.

Equipment:

iMac Computer w/iTunes
MacBook w/iTunes
Dell PC w/iTunes

5 External HDD
1 IOMEGA Network Media Server

Okay, so I have purchased a 1TB Media Server and have it up and running, nothing transferred there yet. I have three computer with music and 5 external HDDs with music. The total files are probably, adding all of the external HDD and computers together, 30K. There are numerous duplications (probably 5%).

What would be the best way to bring all of this together on the Media Server, with corrected tags and no duplications? I use iTunes as my media player.

Thanks in advance.

Chuck
Paul,

I have been reading over numerous post regarding the running out of memory error. This is one that I have been struggling with for a year. I think if there was a basic "strategy" on how to tackle a HUGE number of files it might help users out.

For instance, my scenario:

Mac 10.5.5 running Jai 2.7.0

1.) I have consolidated three HDD to one 1TB external drive.
2.) 50,000 songs
3.) mostly MP3
4.) Numerous songs duplicated 2-3-4 times

If I do batches of say 1000 on the new drive and DONOT change the base folder nor "fix" the subfolder it works okay.

But if I start to mess with the file name and folder, then if this exists already on the HDD but not loaded then Jai will give you the cannot over write file error.

So i guess if you could come up with a basic "strategy" on how to tackle something like my scenario it would probably help. Just my thoughts. keep up the work, this is the best product I have used for music and continue to be a disciple.

MAC OS X 10.5.2 w/ 4 GB RAM
Jaikoz v2.4.0

What is the best method of consolidating a large number of files, approximately 25k (60 GB)?

What I have done is consolidated all of my PC and MAC HDD on to one 1 TB HDD. I know that I might have a lot of duplicate files, so what I was thinking about is setting up the manipulators, run Jaikoz against the entire drive and then filter out all duplicates, correct the file names and then sub folders. But if I load more than 10k I get an memory low error. Any thoughts?

Is there a way to deal with the wma files also?

Thanks

Chuck
I am currently getting a startup error that states 8>=8.

Any thoughts?

Chuck
Good Afternoon,

1.) Both. I had to go into the "Install full license" option and direct it to the location of the license.jai file. Now this might be my mistake because I do not keep it in the Jaikoz folder I have it in a folder under documents/Software licenses. The other versions seemed to always keep it. I updated from an earlier version then 2.3.1

2.) Screen shot included. Id does seem to have something to do with different versions i.e. ID3v1v23 compared to ones that have ID3v something else.

3.) Sorry about #3 it was Filters Menu. When I would go to the filters for the drop down box they would show the parent options but not the children. Reinstall fixed this one.

Thanks

Chuck

PS the website will not allow me to attach the screen shot. Drop me an email at chuckkyle@mac.com and I will respond with the screen shot
Evening,

Here are several issues that I have found with the beta version.

1.) Installation - software did not sense or find the key from my last version. Updates that I have done before have automatically used the last key. No big deal just found the key that I had in a different location and did the full key install.

2.) Delete duplicates function does not work properly. I consolidated two computers with 3000 songs I know of at least 100 that were dups. The duplicate deletion only found 6 even though I could see several just on the screen. I set the settings for "it has the same MD ID as another file". Still did not pick the others up.

3.) Filers menu on top non-functional. Drop down only shows parent structure nothing past the arrows.

4.) Can no longer select just eh volume to do a search must select a folder. I use to be able just to select Macintosh HD and it would do the search now I have to select individual folders.

Enough for now. As I find others I will let you know. Either-way, still a fantastic program. I am getting ready to "sort" a 120 GB HD that has 20k of songs, we will see how it handles that. If you have any suggestions on the best items to place in the manipulators for auto-correct so that it is fully functional as an itunes library on an external drive I would GREATLY appreciate it.

Chuck
I found the files. But get this error when I attach them:

I guess I should have give more information. I am running MAC OS X Leopard and have Jaikoz v2.0.2

Thanks

Chuck
Here is a problem that is driving me nuts. Certain songs ALWAYS cause this error message, What do I need to do to correct this?

Thanks in advance
