Hi Paul! It's been a while since my last post here, time flies!

Here's my issue: i've been using Jaikoz for ages and always had it installed in my home directory in Linux. When you made it possible to have it installed in whatever directory the user wished it was great. However I now find that you include the JVM into the installer and that somehow has to be ran as root, otherwise it fails with permission errors (since a normal user can't write to /usr/share/applications by default).

EDIT:

Can we unselect JVM in the install process?
You've got to quote them, that is, enclosing them in single quotes so that they lose their special meaning.

Replace ] for ']', then.
It's nice to hear you are considering this, Paul. I'll be eager to test it.
Hi Paul,
More than a problem, this is some kind of minor request:
As you probably know, user configurations, preferences, caches and the like are normally stored in a "dot-folder" under the home directory, but jaikoz stores it in my home directory. Is there any way to change this? I like to keep my home directory clean, so I would like Jaikoz to store its stuff into $HOME/.jaikoz instead of $HOME/Jaikoz. Is it possible?
Thanks.
Hi Paul,
The solution was using a variable so that Java knows that I am using a non-reparenting windows manager, whatever that is, by editing a script in /etc/profile.d/
Now it works perfectly.
I started as user and java programs run apparently fine as I could get it installed as regular user. I remember getting Jaikoz to work on another laptop, but that was months ago. I'll try again sometime soon. Any other tip?
That's how I start it and get the empty window (you can see jaikoz.sh at the top of the log and the screenshot). Any other tip? Thanks Paul,
Hi Paul,
This happens in Arch Linux x86_64. What else can I try?
Hi Paul.
I'm a long time user of Jaikoz. I recently got a ThinkPad T500 and installed Jaikoz properly.
I have been trying with different versions of Java: OpenJDK6, OpenJDK7, and jre6 and jre7, but Jaikoz starts without showing up anything in the window.
I can actually quit the window pressing the shortcut (ctrl-q and then enter).
I've attached the log and a screenshot.
Any way to solve this?
Cheers,

Hi Paul! Funnily enough my MBP is broken, so it will take some days for me to send these files when i eventually remember it.
Cheers,
The problem persists in 3.8.3 Pre-Release
Using latest Jaikoz on OS X 10.6.5.
Steps used:
1. Open a folder with AACs and MP3s on it.
2. Run autocorrector.
3. Save.
4. Get the error.

The files are valid as I already play them with iTunes and Cmus (my default player).
Cheers,

Alright. Great!
After editing files for a while, the playlist is created, but no files would be on it.
I am using OS X v10.5.6, iTunes v8.0.2 and Jaikoz v2.9.1.
I will create the support files and mail them to you, Paul, asap.
Cheers,

Of course!
Hey Paul!
I have uploaded the screenshot in Skitch. The artwork comes from http://bit.ly/3sUjE2

there it goes
http://skitch.com/enricus/bj14d/fullscreen
I pasted some artwork that i saw on amazon onto some files. The problem is that once saved, iTunes would show them in inverted colors (like in a negative). I am using latest Jaikoz and latest iTunes (2.8.4 and 8.0.2 respectively).
Any idea?
Thanks

EDIT: forgot to especify that happens when pasting with CTRL+V, not downloading automatically via MusicBrainz or loading the file.
After using Windows Media Player, some of the files that i used to have from those times, have not supported data embedded in the file. It would be very useful if Jaikoz automatically stripped all that info for the users like me who don't need that non-standard info anymore...
Hi Paul! First, greetings from Sunny Australia!
Second, i find the preferences window very messy, especially the save dialog, and all the manipulators. I would merge several of the subpages (especially those that have only one option, like Save/General), and i would change the ID3 page in the preferences, tell me if you like it:
Merge ID3v1 and ID3v2,
Choose between: prefer ID3v1, ID3v2, or write both.
If ID3v1 is chosen, cool, otherwise, show the Encoding options, and probably enforce Unicode?
Tell me your thoughts,
Thanks for your attention,
Enric
Oh, OK, this made it clear. Thanks John.
I was working on some media files, by getting the acoustic ids and correcting the MB info. Now, have seen this weird gray zone.
What does this mean?

Nice!
http://musicbrainz.org/release/76aa8590-53ed-4ba5-bc83-1fc6c207d374.html
I waited those 24hours and now the entry is more complete! I did try the tagger button, but somehow it didn't work or i wasn't doing the right process...
Before you submitted the message, i already did the MB unique id. You couldn't find the release because it's not in the search DB yet, but you can find it here http://musicbrainz.org/show/artist/?artistid=560626 . Following your advice, i will retrieve the Acoustic IDs tomorrow, and submit them to the MB DB. What i meant is to browse the MB database by query, not by acoustic fingerprint. I was just expecting a window to come up, with a search box, which would add the unique ids for me. Certainly, going to the MB site and entering the IDs manually was a good idea.
Today I learnt that there is a database, separate to MusicBrainz that is called MusicIP. In my opinion, that's useless (better to centralize the stuff in MB) but as i am not the administrator (fortunately for the universal balance), i have to shut up.
Well, thanks for the help, Paul.
Arghh, how stupid i am! "Update tags from existing MB ID"!! Any way to search MusicBrainz from within Jaikoz?
Hi Paul! I was given an album by a friend of mine as present for my future birthday. I wanted to contribute to MusicBrainz by submitting this CD there (it's a not well-known band, Projekt Caravelle). So i ripped it into iTunes (obviously, no CDDB info), submitted the info to MusicBrainz from the cover of the album, and then ran Jaikoz against those tracks. For sure, there wasn't any Acoustic ID on the MusicIP server, so Jaikoz told that i had to wait 24 hours to retrieve the ID. Is there any way to directly submit the ID to MusicBrainz, so that i can tag all my files from there? Maybe i haven't made the process in order, was just guessing.
Thanks in advance,
Enric
Uhmm that's a good idea. Maybe this could be implemented in the AutoCorrect batch tasks...
With iTunes v8, it seems that this issue is corrected. The default "keep folders organised" is working perfectly, and the update itunes xml in Jaikoz works as expected. Now we can enjoy Jaikoz+iTunes without problems! (just checked it by playing files and editing them in Jaikoz meanwhile).
In my opinion, it would be better to run Jaikoz on every machine against the remote files, be it over SMB or AppleTalk. Isn't it easier? I find it more simple than having to rely on Xgrid. Just my .02c
What language would be the plugins programmed in? Java? Just wondering.
