I have a huge database on a NAS box, which has a username and password access
When I set SongKong to update it, I get a load of errors saying the files cannot be modified
is this likely to be a permissions problem
I can access the files fine and SongKong reads them ok but no modification
Thanks for that, I will slowly digest this and proceed as suggested
Just to confirm, if I have music on Ipads and Ipods, can I put SongKong to work on these, or am I restricted to just the PC's and laptops?
I know that with the Ipads/Ipods, I can point the itunes to a specific folder, so any downloaded music, will be sent/stored to this location, - say the NAS folder, so am I guessing correct that this would be the solution to these items local music?
I am a brand new user and my question is a bit convoluted so here goes...
I have a pair of NAS boxes synchronizing my music between my house and my office, with the one at the office as a backup
My music is all over the place in terms of filing etc. but all in a folder called 'Music' on both the Home and the backup NAS boxes
My wife, my 5 kids and I run numerous laptops at home as well as ipads, ipods and a shiny new Sonos system is on its way!
There are a good few GB of music held locally on many of the devices, mostly running itunes, but I have also over 250gb of data in my Music folder which has variously been linked to PC's and laptops in the house
My main laptop at home has itunes running but most of the songs listed are not found, as the original NAS box has been updated, renamed and replaced at various times
I would like to drop all my music into a single central folder, say 'MusicNew' and then associate all my devices to read from this box when in the house
Once done I would like to set each device to somehow add any new music purchased to that folder which would then need to be picked up by other devices when they open Itunes
Also once my Sonos kit arrives, I would need it to read that folder to access the music
I tried Folderwatch years ago, but never really got it off the ground
I have just purchased the SongKong standard and am running it on a copy of my music folder at work, just to see how it works, but if I do the same on the home folder, I am guessing it wont then re-associate all the unlinked files to my main computer?
I have a small pc in my cellar attached to my network, which is always on, so wonder if I put a fresh itunes on that, and SongKong, maybe that would be a good start
Thoughts ?.....
oh and apologies for the novel!
